National Chiropractic Health Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness of musculoskeletal health and the everyday factors that can influence how we move.
Rather than focusing on one idea of “good posture”, this can include staying physically active, changing position regularly, managing increases in activity or workload and paying attention to persistent pain or stiffness. It is also a chance to explain where chiropractic care may fit within the management of some musculoskeletal problems, including the assessment of symptoms and discussion of appropriate treatment options.
When is National Chiropractic Health Month 2026?
National Chiropractic Health Month is taking place from 1st – 31st October 2026.
Chiropractic Myths and Facts
Although awareness of chiropractic care has grown, there are still a number of misconceptions about what chiropractors do and what treatment involves.
Did you know that Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession in the UK? Chiropractors in Great Britain MUST be registered with the General Chiropractic Council, and are trained to assess, diagnose and manage a range of musculoskeletal problems.
Chiropractic treatment is also not limited to back pain and may also be considered for some types of neck, joint and muscle discomfort, depending on the underlying cause.
And did you know that there is no requirement for somebody to continue care indefinitely? The type and length of treatment should instead be based on the individual’s symptoms, assessment findings, response to care and personal goals.
A typical chiropractic assessment will usually involve discussing the symptoms, relevant medical history and how the problem is affecting everyday movement or activity before carrying out an appropriate physical assessment. The chiropractor can then explain their findings and discuss whether chiropractic care is suitable, including the treatment options that may be considered.
Understanding Musculoskeletal Health
Musculoskeletal health is about how the body’s muscles, bones, joints, tendons and ligaments work together during movement. When something becomes irritated or strained, it can make ordinary activities more difficult. Someone might notice stiffness after sitting for a while, pain when lifting or walking, or discomfort during exercise and repetitive work.
These problems do not always have one clear cause. They may be linked to a change in activity, a demanding workload, an old injury, spending too long in one position or other aspects of a person’s general health. Posture can matter, but there is not usually one “correct” position that prevents all discomfort. Moving regularly, changing position and staying active at a manageable level are often more useful than trying to hold the body rigidly in place.
If pain or stiffness continues, gets worse or starts to limit movement, it is sensible to seek professional advice. This can help identify what may be contributing to the problem and what type of support or treatment might be appropriate.
Benefits of Chiropractic Care
The benefits of chiropractic care will depend on the problem being treated and what is contributing to the symptoms. For some musculoskeletal problems, chiropractic treatment may help to reduce stiffness, improve movement and make certain everyday activities more comfortable. This can be particularly relevant when discomfort is affecting things such as walking, bending, exercising, working or simply moving after being in one position for a long time.
Chiropractic care also gives people an opportunity to look more closely at how their symptoms behave rather than focusing only on where something hurts. A chiropractor may consider factors such as previous injuries, changes in activity, work demands and the movements that aggravate or ease the problem.
Looking Ahead: The future of Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care has changed considerably over time, and that process is likely to continue. New research is helping practitioners better understand musculoskeletal pain, while assessment and treatment are increasingly shaped by the individual rather than by a fixed routine.
The future of chiropractic care is also likely to involve more overlap with areas such as exercise, rehabilitation and general musculoskeletal healthcare. Technology may play a bigger part too, particularly in assessment, record-keeping and monitoring progress. What is unlikely to change is the need to understand why somebody is struggling with a particular movement or activity and to decide what type of care, if any, is appropriate for them.
Join Us in Celebrating National Chiropractic Health Month 2026
National Chiropractic Health Month is a chance to put a little more attention on how we move, how our bodies respond to everyday demands and the different ways musculoskeletal health can be looked after. It is also a good opportunity for us to thank our patients and the wider local community for the support they continue to show the clinic.
If you would like to understand whether chiropractic care may be suitable for you, our team at Tamworth / Lichfield Chiropractic Clinic is happy to discuss your symptoms and what you would like to get back to doing.
